Bamboo EcoResort & Spa
Bamboo EcoResort & Spa is a $50MM sustainable
resort project in St. Mary, Jamaica, in 209 acres of
undeveloped coastal property that features pristine
tropical forests, two rivers, and three private beaches.
The resort will overlook the Caribbean and will feature
luxury accommodations, a Spa and three restaurants.
As designed by Architect Eric Lloyd Wright the facilities
will utilize renewable energy systems comprised
of solar PV and windmills and bio-diesel generators to
supply 100% of the resort’s power and will generate
its own potable water and treat its own waste water.
The project aims to obtain at least Gold LEED cert.
Challenge: Energy efficiency in a self sufficient system
as this eco-resort is key. There is a need for an effective
way to monitor power consumption throughout the
facility and to automate the transfer of energy resources
in case of a power loss from any source. Energy
saving practices and measurements must be taken in
order to reduce the waste of energy at all times. Also,
being able to notify maintenance crew members of
any failure as soon as possible is needed to reduce
response time and ensure guest comfort.
Solution: Mercedes Electric Supply is currently designing
the automation system that will manage and
control the entire facility. SquareD gear and automatic
transfer switches, aided by Power Logics power monitoring
equipment will deliver energy and coordinate
power delivery throughout the resort under all conditions,
even controlling the Kohler generators (fueled
by bio-diesel).
The use of energy efficient Sylvania energy efficient
lamps and LED systems with intelligent Lutron controls
will reduce power use from lighting rooms and common
areas.
The whole system will be networked on Ethernet and
with the use of web-enabled Schneider Electric Transparent
ReadyTM technologies, the status of the entire
resort will be available from any authorized computer
in the resort as well as on maintenance crew’s portable
devices. |
