Victor LaPorta - Vice President
Born in Chicago, Illinois in 1948, Victor J. LaPorta was raised in Chicago until age 5 when his parents moved the family to Prairie Village, Kansas. Victor earned a Bachelor of Science at the University of Kansas. After graduating in 1970, he was drafted into the US Army and served our country in Vietnam in 1971. When Victor returned a year later, he went to work for a unit of Hallmark Cards in Des Moines Iowa. A year later he was transferred to Chicago where he met Mercedes, and they married in 1975. That year he went to work for Sylvania and went back to school where he earned his MBA at Benedictine University.
After almost 30 years in business, the company has grown into a $25 million dollar electrical distributorship selling to electrical contractors, general contractors and corporations. Victor’s role in the company has changed over the years, but his main focus has been in developing and building the vendor and customer relationships that serve as the core philosophy that has made Mercedes Electric so successful.
Victor has served on the Board of Goodwill Industries of South Florida as well as been on various committees in industry and trade organizations such as, IMARK Group, IEC, NECA, IES, and ABC.
Mercedes and Victor have two daughters, Jennifer and Katherine. Jennifer is employed in the fashion industry in New York City. Katherine is attending Florida International University, preparing for Veterinary School after graduation.
